Printer Drivers
and Ways To
Update Drivers For Peak
Performance. Copyright(C)
Julian Pereira.
A driver is a computer
program that controls a
particular hardware device
connected to your computer.
A printer driver converts
the general input/output
instructions that it
receives from your
application software into
the specific electrical
impulses that are needed to
operate your printer.
Printer drivers allow your
application software to use
your printer without needing
to know the technical
specifications of the make
and model of your particular
printer.
Printer drivers should not
be confused with print
spoolers. These are buffer
areas where data to be
printed is temporarily
stored until the printer,
which usually operates at a
much slower speed, is able
to print it.
Common operating systems,
such as Microsoft Windows,
come preloaded with drivers
for popular printer models.
In some cases, however, you
may need to install the
printer driver yourself.
This can happen if you run
an older operating system
and buy a newer printer
model, for example.
If you need to install the
printer driver yourself, you
will likely find it on the
installation CD that came
with your printer.
Sometimes, though, you may
need to obtain the driver
yourself. One such instance
would be if you have a new
printer model and the driver
on the installation CD is an
early version that doesn’t
have all of the bugs worked
out. In this case, it’s best
to download and install the
latest driver from the
manufacturer’s web site.
If you can’t find the driver
on the manufacturer’s web
site, there are several
directories on the internet
that have archives of all
types of drivers. Some of
them also have an area where
members can upload hard to
find drivers for others to
download.
If you are downloading your
printer driver yourself,
remember that drivers are
hardware dependant and
operating system specific,
so make sure you get the
driver that matches both the
make and model of your
printer as well as your
operating system.
There are several driver
update software. I have
found DriverCure software to
be very easy to use and does
a great job of updating
printers and other hardware
devices. I recommend this
software, as it offers the
latest printer and other
device updates, due to its
immense database. If you
would like to try a free
scan you can get it here.

Video Card Driver - What A
Video Card Driver is and what are its functions.
A video card is a
hardware component that contains the memory and circuitry necessary to render
the images that you see on your monitor. Video cards are also commonly referred
to as video adapters, video controllers or display adapters. A driver is
a computer program that controls a particular hardware device connected to your
computer. A video card driver converts the general graphical output instructions
that it receives from your application software into the more detailed
instructions that your particular video card understands.
When you purchase a computer,
the video card driver that you need normally comes preinstalled with the
operating system. However, there are several situations where you may want, or
need, to install or upgrade the video card driver yourself.
Video card manufacturers
often improve their drivers by removing bugs or adding extra functionality. If
your monitor seems buggy, or is performing poorly, you may have an outdated
video card driver.
Changes to your operating
system or new software may also cause conflicts with your video card or video
card driver. If your video card manufacturer has updated the driver, you may
solve the problem by installing it.
If you upgrade your video
card to take advantage of better graphics capabilities, you'll probably need to
upgrade your video card driver as well. If the video card came with an
installation CD, the driver should be on it. If not, you'll have to download it
from the manufacturer's web site.
There are also several
directories on the internet that have archives of all types of drivers. This can
be useful if you have a hard to find driver, perhaps from a manufacturer that's
gone out of business. Some of these sites may even have agents that will scan
your computer, look for outdated drivers, and prompt you to update your system
with more current drivers.
If you are downloading the
video card driver yourself, remember that drivers are hardware dependant and
operating system specific, so make sure you get the driver that matches both the
make and model of your video card as well as your operating system.
